NASA released a video for the evolution of the moon from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and the story is amazing. The video shows 4.5 bilion years of moon evolution for 3 min and we can see how the moon got that look until today. Even that it look's like the moon never change when we look every day in it ... the moon didn't look always like today. 
Nothing to say more ... just watch the beautiful video and you will be amazed.
